Carried Through

Follow the path of your mind. When you notice it clouded with thoughts of anger, bitterness, despair, rumination, pain, or fantasy, remember your daddies. Philippians 4:8.

Four and eight. Philippians, Four and eight.

A Black man born in the 1940s…his body endured Jim Crow, the loss of his mother in childbirth, the brutality of Vietnam. Philippians 4:8 carried him through. At war overseas. At war in his own country. He endured, steadfast. Philippians 4:8 carried him through.

Philippians. Philippians 4:8 carried him through.

So I guess I can carry myself through.
I guess I can get myself through.
It’s what you make of your pain, instead of letting your pain make you.

Philippians 4:8:
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true
(Life is suffering, and we all hold heartbreak. You are not alone in your pain.)
Whatsoever things are honest
(Listen, then obey Spirit. Honor your authentic expression.)
Whatsoever things are just
(Where am I in this?)
Whatsoever things are pure
(Be here now and see through the eyes of God.)
Whatsoever things are lovely
(Marvel at the miracles all around you.)
Whatsoever things are of good report
(Insert the things you’re proud of here.)
If there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

If there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

If there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
